Luther Point Bible Camp

2005 Luther Point Bible Camp Association Annual Meeting
November 5, 2005 – GARY LOKTU CENTER

The meeting was called to order by Pastor David Everett, President of the Board. The meeting was opened with devotions and prayer by Rev. Craig Corbin, Executive Director..

There were 62 people in attendance. Everyone stood and introduced themselves, what church they were from and how many years they had been acquainted with LPBC.

REPORT OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
– Rev. David Everett, President of the Board

The board meets every month. On even months there are committee meetings and on odd months there is a board meeting. Many of the board members travel quite a distance. Being a board member requires a time commitment from the board members. Thank you very much for all you do for the camp. Thank you for your tremendous work and effort that you do.

This is a beautiful setting. We are responsible to take care of it. The family cabins are an example of how we take care of this setting. The old resort is now becoming beautiful year-round family cabins that any family can come and enjoy the setting that God has given us.

Even more important that the setting is the people and the programs. The people that have been called to be part of the year-round staff and the summer staff. The programs that we do and will do here for youth, senior citizens, church professionals families and a wide variety of people are a key to the ministry that happens here.

To do all this takes money. Because of the support of the member churches and the support of individuals, cost of camp and programs are dramatically lower. Please continue to support this camp. Go back to your congregations and encourage them to support the camp.

REPORT OF THE CAMP DIRECTOR
– Rev. Craig Corbin, Executive Director

I am taking one step at a time. Seeking God’s will as to what should happen here.

Thank you to all the people who have given resounding yes’s to this program and ministry here.

We have taken some risks this year: In an effort to make the camp safer for all who come here, especially the youth, we are working on closing the road after the soccer field at the top of the hill before you get to the softball field. Currently the road is a town road. In order to close the road we have to build a turnaround. We are in negotiations with adjoining property owners to be able to do this. The turnaround will cost approximately $25-30,000.

We had a professional video company come and do a Promotional video. It will be released in January. We want to maintain the momentum that we have had the last two summers of increasingcamper numbers.

We want to share this ministry and opportunity to come to Bible camp with any and all youth that are willing to come. We offer camperships in any amount to all youth who need or ask for them. It is important that the youth have an alternative to the world of drugs and crime that is out there. We are able to offer these camperships due to many faithful people who have donated thousands of dollars.

We have started to revive the Camper Cabins with a grant from Thrivent. This grant was based on a number of volunteer hours. We needed over 800 volunteer hours and you responded with over 1,200 hours! Thank you!

We produced the first ever LPBC CD. Many parents say that their children never stop singing thesongs they learn at camp. Music is something that touches the soul.

We have some challenges coming up:

  • The chapel roof needs to be replaced this spring. This will cost approximately $25-30,000.
  • We have two more family cabins to finish renovating and one more that has yet to be renovated.
  • I can’t say thank you enough.
  • It is a tremendous privilege to be working here. I have bad days like everyone else but my passion for this ministry continues as strong if not stronger than the first day I came. Thank you for letting me work here.

PROGRAM COORDINATOR REPORT
-
Trish Remus, Program Coordinator

I am blessed to have been able to work here.

There are openings for Day Camps. Thank you for all the work you do with Day Camps. We could not offer them without your help.

The summer program is going well. Please keep talking to kids. Talk to them about coming to camp. Encourage them.Encourage your college-age staff to work at camp.

Thank you again for all the time and work you do for the camp.

FINANCIAL REPORT: Ron Swanson, Treasurer of the Board

Accountant Krista Curry of JR Pangrel, Ltd., CPA of Pine City, MN and Marcel Snow, Camp Coordinator, gave a report on the review of the association books. They are in good order and have been brought up to GAAP.

LPBC FOUNDATION REPORT
-
Joan Bartz, President of the Foundation Board

There have been people who have not put their names forward who have changed their wills and who have included the foundation in estate planning. These gifts will not be seen right away. We want to enjoy the people. There will be no disbursements until $25,000 is reached.

BOARD MEMBER ELECTIONS:

New Association Board Members: When choosing Association Board members the skills and background of the individuals are considered. The board is made up of five clergy and seven lay people all from member churches.

Lay Person (three year terms ending January 2009): Sheila Odegard, Faith Lutheran, Grantsburg, WI; and Ron Swanson, Pilgrim Lutheran, Superior, WI.

New Foundation Board Members Chosen: When choosing Foundation Board members the skills and background of the individuals are considered. The Foundation Board is made up of five people all from member churches. No more than two members can also be members of the Association Board.

Three year term ending January 2009: Joan Bartz, Holy Cross Lutheran, Glenwood City, WI.

Nominating Committee Named:
The following people volunteered to serve on the nominating committee next year:

  • Kay Erickson, First Lutheran, Amery, WI
  • Barb Braynard, Faith Lutheran, Grantsburg, WI

  • Alma and Herman Johnson Estate: The board submitted a bid on 29 of the 50 acres. These acres adjoin LPBC property. Current potential use of this land could be for the Food Resource Bank.
  • The proposed 2006 budget was accepted. We need to encourage growth giving. Many people have given $100 for years. $100 today is not worth what it was years ago. We have ended in the black for the last 12 years and we feel that we will end well in the black again this year.
