Siren Glen Link3RD ANNUAL GOLF SCRAMBLE
What a fabulous day we had for our 3rd Annual Golf Scramble!! We could not have asked for a nicer day with sunny skies and fair temperatures. 72 golfers took to the course on Monday June 6th to help sponsor campers coming to camp this summer. All funds raised from this year’s event were designated for the Campership Fund.

The Golf Scramble was once again held at the Siren Glen Golf Club, located about seven miles from Luther Point, near Siren, Wisconsin. This year the camp received 18 hole sponsorships who provided a gift of $100 each. Hole sponsors were given recognition with a sponsorship sign on one of the tee boxes. A complete list of all hole sponsors is listed in the ad below. We also had one major sponsor with a $500 gift from Bernick’s Pepsi of Dresser, Wisconsin.

Our top three finishing teams this year include the following persons. First place (pictured above) went to Larry Rose, Larry Armut, Gary Barrows and Jerry Carlson with a blistering 14 under par. Two teams tied for 2nd place with a score of 12 under par. The one team (pictured at the right) consisted of Brad Samuelson, Jake Sauter, Tim Ballis and Rod Williamson. The other second place team (pictured on the left) that took home the third place trophy included Jay Ticknor, John Haley, Drew Ekstrom and Mark Gjovig.

A special thanks to Lee’s Pro Shop from Pine City, Minnesota who provided all the trophies and special game prizes for the scramble tournament. Several door prizes were also provided for the event from a variety of area businesses. We thank all those businesses and individuals who participated in making this year’s event possible. Several families and children will benefit from this event as they receive camperships to make it possible for them to come to camp.

Family Cabin Renewal Update
We have officially renovated three Family Cabins. Those cabins are Trinity, Galilee and Jericho cabins. We still have three remaining cabins left to remodel, Jerusalem, Nazareth and Zion Cabins.
Our plan is to start on one of the remaining three cabins sometime this fall. Both funding and volunteer help has been steady. We still need more of both. Right now we have enough funds available to get a good start on the fourth cabin but we are far from having enough funds to complete it. Gifts of any and all sizes are appreciated and needed.
Once again A HEARTFELT THANK YOU to all the volunteers and donors who have helped to make this project possible
Through out the past several months, a number of individuals and families have come to enjoy the newly remodeled cabins and to spend some quality time at the camp. Some of the other amenities that come with spending time at camp, especially in the summer time are, use of canoes, paddleboats, pontoon boat, waterfront during designated hours and the awesome natural environment.

CAMPER CABIN REVIVAL
We reported to you in our spring Luther Point Prints Newsletter that we were eligible for a $5,000 grant from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. The stipulation of the grant involves the accumulated effort of volunteers to reach 825 hours of volunteer service.

Right now as of this newsletter we have accumulated about 500 hours of volunteer service and slightly more than $3,750 through volunteer fundraising activities from 15 churches of the Luther Point Camp Association. Luther Point will not be the full recipient of the $5,000 grant until all 825 hours of volunteer service is reached.
This is where you can help in this effort. In order to accumulate the 825 hours of volunteer service we are asking the remaining congregations to participate in some related fundraising event. This will serve to accomplish two purposes. 1) Everyone who participates in a fundraising event will help us reach our 825 hours of volunteer service. 2) The additional funds that are raised because of the fundraiser will go towards making improvements to the camper cabins.

As mentioned in the spring newsletter, we hope to make several improvements to the camper cabins. The following is a list of much needed improvements. 1) New countertops and sinks in the bathroom area. 2) Two new toilets in each cabin. 3) Purchase at least 50 new bunks and 150 new mattresses. 4) Replace several screen doors. 5) Replace several windows and, 6) Paint interior walls and floors. The anticipated cost for all of these improvements is over $30,000.

The overall success of this project will be dependent upon how well our congregations participate. The $5,000 from Thrivent Financial for Lutheran is only a fraction of the total cost for this project. We need several more churches to participate in a volunteer fundraising event before October 1, 2005. Each congregational has a Thrivent contact person. They have been provided with sign up forms and pledge forms.

THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS
Join Hands Day and other clean-up days

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for all the wonderful help and enthusiasm during the Join Hands Day held on May 7, 2005. The camp was buzzing with volunteers and we truly did multiple our hands. The amount of work that was accomplished that day was quite substantial.

Thanks again to everyone who came and shared their time and talent for Join Hands Day!!

Phone-a-thon for Camperships
Luther Point held a phone-a-thon Mon., May 2 and Tues., May 3 to help raise awareness of the need to provide campership funding for families and children who need assistance. Lakeland Communications in Milltown, Wisconsin provided the space and technical assistance to allow this important event to happen. The facilities and accommodations at Lakeland Communications are exceptional. The staff at Lakeland were very professional and their hospitality was very much appreciated.

24 people volunteered to make phone calls on behalf of the camp to raise much needed funds for camperships. The collective efforts from all callers made it possible for the camp to raise over $7,900. Along with the pledges made we also identified several folks who were Thrivent members. Many of those Thrivent members agreed to have their gift matched through the GivingPlus Program. This has enabled the camp to raise over $9,000 for camperships when all gifts and matching funds are combined.

The phone-a-thon is part of a fundraising strategy to set aside funds for any child who has a desire to come to camp. The Luther Point Board of Directors is committed to this cause and the camp staff is wholeheartedly behind this effort to make it possible for any child to come to camp.

A special word of thanks to all those individuals who agreed to come and be a caller for the phone-a-thon. We simply could not have had the success that we did without you. I also want to thank all of you who have sent in a gift to help make it possible for more and more children to come to Bible camp.

From the Luther Point Mailbag
From a Luther Point Camper,

I came to camp not knowing what I wanted to do in my life. On the way home, I realized that I want to make a difference. I want people to know about Jesus and ways to praise Him. Camp really helped me learn more about Jesus and God. Everything at this camp is just so wonderful....All the counselors at Luther Point are awesome...

....I want to come back every year until I can be a counselor. LPBC has had a big impact on my life. Being around so many people who live a great Christian life has done something to me. Luther Point has influenced me in so many ways, I hope other kids go home feeling the same way.

From another Luther Point Camper,
This year at camp was wonderful! I met new friends, was in a movie and had a great counselor. Also thank you kitchen crew for the awesome food! I wasn’t hungry once! My taste buds were surely satisfied! The canteen was awesome too. One of the greatest things was the lake! the week that I was there...was one of the hottest weeks ever! So of course, everyone was in the lake. Another cool thing, my cabin got the Silver Paddle. Last but not least, I learned how to make really cool bracelets. I gave them to people and they game some back to me too! Thanks for the highlight in my year!

Bonus Grant From Thrivent
If you are a Thrivent member you have the opportunity to help Luther Point become the recipient of a Bonus Grant. Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has notified us that they have an $800,000 grant that Luther Point has a chance to share. This is how it works: If we engage a minimum of 216 Thrivent Financial members into the GivingPlus Program by December 1, 2005 we will receive a proportionate amount of the total $800,000 challenge grant from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.

Please consider making a gift to Luther Point and having it matched through Thrivent Financial for Lutherans’ GivingPlus Program. Help us make our goal of 216 members so we can share a part of the $800,000 challenge grant.

Greetings From Trish
"When I'm not here, I just feel homesick for camp." ~ Camper, Week Four

Picture the scene. It is a warm sunny day. Campers are laughing and splashing in the lake. You can hear the bell ringing in the third hour of freetime. In the gazebo some counselors and campers sit playing guitars. A small group of campers are chatting in the shade at a picnic table, enjoying their canteen snack.

Seven years ago these campers were my campers. I still have their pictures in my scrapbook from that summer. It is amazing to see how many campers come year after year. How they have grown! We hear stories about why Luther Point is a place they return to each summer. One of my past campers said it beautifully, "When I'm not here, I just feel homesick for camp."

We often see campers who were crying on Sunday, because they did not want their parents to leave, hugging and crying with their counselor on Friday because now the campers don't want to leave. We have had everything from the week where it felt like we should start building an ark to the week where the breeze off the lake is what kept us from melting away. But through all the mud sliding, singing in the rain, water games, encouragements to "drink more water", campfires that started and some that didn't, Bible studies and chats; we have praised God and learned about prayer and talking with God.

It has been a great summer.

Thank you to all who have been a part of Summer 2005 so far. We are looking forward to seeing the rest of you soon!

God's Peace, Trish

Weekend Family Camp Was A Success
We just completed our first Weekend Family Camp this summer from July 14-July 17. We had seven families participate. Yes that may sound small but we need to start somewhere.

Our Bible Study for the adults was lead by Rev Arden and Kathy Norum from Alexandria MN. Rev. Norum is the former Executive Director of Luther Crest Bible Camp near Alexandria. The Bible Study theme for the weekend was from the national outdoor ministry study based on Prayer.

Some of the Luther Point summer staff helped with the children and lead worships, campfires and Bible studies and games for the children. The program started on Thursday evening and finished up around noon on Sunday.

Some of the highlights of the weekend included lots of time spent keeping cool in the lake and all the kids got to sink a canoe with several dads taking the plunge. The final worship was made extra special because several of the children got to participate in the final skit of the weekend. They all did a great job and played their parts.

We hope to offer this camp again next summer and we look forward to having even more families participate. Please consider this for your family for the summer of 2006.

The Luther Point Foundation is still in its infancy stage and we are looking forward to growing as more and more people come to realize its mission and purpose.

The mission of the Luther Point Foundation was solidified at the last meeting of its Board of Directors on July 7, 2005. The mission statement that was ratified is as follows:

"The mission of the Luther Point Foundation is to strengthen and expand the Christian ministries of Luther Point Bible Camp now and into the future by providing funding for:
• Facilities enhancement and expansion
• Staff Education and Scholarships
• Program Development
• Other needs as they arise."

As we have said before, we have a tremendous opportunity and responsibility to insure the integrity and stability of this inistry for the next generation and beyond. We invite you to consider a gift to the LPBC Foundation in order that the above mentioned mission can be realized.

Including the Luther Point Foundation in your estate planning is a wonderful way to leave a lasting legacy. Some of the gift options include: Bequests, Gift Annuities, Life Insurance, Real Estate and Charitable Trusts. Thank you for your consideration.
